‘Fatal Redemption’ has won the Mystery/Suspense category of the fourth annual IndieReader Discovery Awards (IRDAs) http://indiereader.com, presented by bestselling Indie author Melissa Foster at BookExpo America (BEA), the major literary trade show in New York City.

Hot on the heels of winning the ‘Crime Fiction Category’ of the 3rd Annual Beverly Hills International Book Awards and the ‘General Fiction’ category of the 2015 Great Northwest Book Festival, this slick Mystery Thriller, a first in series, is now a ‘must read’. Author Lou Kilzer travelled from Costa Rica to attend the announcement, accompanied by EP marketing manager Sophie, who flew over from the UK to represent co-author Mark Boyden.

Fatal Redemption co-authored by Lou Kilzer and Mark Boyden is based around heroin Sally Will, a young, hyper-determined investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune who smokes black cigars, drinks too much and suffers periodic panic attacks. Based in Denver, she catches the story of a lifetime. In this roller-coaster mystery thriller, Sally must overcome the Russian Mafyia and its green-eyed assassin Katya, the Chicago mob and the mystery killer. Sally makes mistakes, she draws wrong conclusions, but with the help of her lover, former FBI agent Lou Elliott, Sally confronts all the danger head on.

ANOTHER BRILLIANT REVIEW ON AMAZON

“This is a very complicated novel with a lot moving parts and characters. In the beginning it’s a bit overwhelming and a lot to keep track of, but as the story progresses everything falls into place. The characters are so well developed that in one chapter you love them, in the next you hate them and by the middle of the novel, you’re not sure who the good guys are and who the bad guys are, this keeps the book fresh and interesting and spurs the reader on.

Mr. Wood is killing people, initially just for the thrill of it, then for money. Sally Will is an investigative reporter and she’s hot on his trail, so she thinks… She enlists the help of her boyfriend, Lou Elliot, a private eye, to help her discover who this hit man is and who hired him. Just when she thinks she’s got the foe nailed down, the tables turn on her.

I haven’t read a thriller/suspense with this many twists and turns in a very long time. I’ve read a lot of thriller/suspense novels that bridge the gap between homeland crime and international crime, often things are lost in translation, not the case with this well written novel, the authors do a fantastic job of combining the two and creating a complicated story that’s hard to put down.

I did feel the ending was a bit rushed (even though there was an epilogue, which I loved) and that feeling was exasperated by editing errors that were not in the beginning and middle of the novel. However don’t let that deter you; it was fantastic read that you won’t regret picking up.” M.A.Stanley

TOP BOOK REVIEW FROM AMAZON

Top reviewer at Amazon loves ‘Fatal Redemption’

“The question arises, how can two men write the same novel? Yes, it has been done before and quite successfully, but Lou Kilzer and Mark Boyden have the potion to make an intrigue novel sizzle. Lou received a BA cum laude in philosophy from Yale in 1973, and proceeded to become a journalist with many awards including two Pulitzer prizes to his credit. . He entered the newspaper business beginning in Colorado, and continued in successive positions around the United States and the world. He’s won over a dozen of the top journalism awards in the U.S., including two Pulitzer Prizes. Mark is an international business consultant working in Europe, USA, South America, the Middle and Far East. He honed a passion for writing in the hallowed halls of the Denver Press Club in the mid 1990s where he met Lou Kilzer – the rest is literary history: Lou lives in Costa Rica and Mark lives in England, but they join in writing high quality novels and screenplays. He moved from writing articles and a regular column for Marketing Journal magazine to, with Lou, writing fiction – the Sally Will Series featuring the heroine Sally Will, a beautiful but flawed investigative journalist.

But the proof is in the writing, and the Prologue to this novel is a stunner, setting the tone for everything that follows. It deserves space in an introduction to these writers: `Mr. Wood cut his lights and aimed the SUV down the last one hundred yards of rutted blacktop. He stopped near a junkyard fence, got out, stretched, lit a cigarette. Considered. It was 3 a.m. in Commerce City, a north Denver suburb unknown to any tourist map. A nearby rendering plant that baked cattle blood down to fertilizer was belching vapor. The air was thick, Every time he came here Mr. Wood thought he was going to puke.’ etc. They have us in a place where only creepy things can happen and they do.

The authors’ brief synopsis states `Sally Will, a young, Denver-based reporter who smokes black cigars, fights panic attacks and too frequently succumbs to an urge to gamble. Together with her lover – ex-FBI man turned private eye Lou Elliott -they attempt to track down a man known only as “Mr. Wood,” a typical man with an ordinary background who has an extraordinary ambition: He wants to be the world’s most famous and feared hitman. Before he’s done, no one is safe: protected federal witnesses, American and Russian mob bosses and even the President of the United States. It all begins late one night on a lonely street in Commerce City, Colorado, as Mr. Wood takes aim at a lowly 300-pound biker named Bow Hendricks…’

Try to leave it there…not possible. This is one of the toughest, smartest, most terrifying and well-conceived forays in the dark underworlds of two continents. Crime, intrigue, romance, passion, political shenanigans fill this superb book – and that is nothing to say about Sally Will, the lead character who it looks like will be around in subsequent novels. Stand aside Lee Child, Tom Clancy, and Ian Fleming. Here is a new take on intrigue!” Grady Harp 2015

Travelling to Costa Rica tomorrow, to work with Lou on the sequel. Rainy season they tell me, so vodka under cover, looking out at the rain and trying to keep the keyboard dry!

Lou has been out there for the last six months, so it will be good to work together in person rather than over email and the telephone. We will be in the North of the country, on the Caribbean side.

We are now hearing from Fatal Redemption readers, telling us what they liked and what they want more of…so please keep in touch! We will play with all ideas as we press on with the new book.

It’s already taken off at a hell of a pace! Katya is back to torment Sally and Lou. We have a third country now in the mix alongside the US and Russia.

The premise is different from Fatal Redemption, but the pulsing pace the same. We get much more inside the heads of Sally and Lou as they work to uncover a plot and solve the mystery.

The idea is to write 4 or 5 hours a day and then dive and explore for the rest of the time.

They tell me that the second most wonderful reef after the Great Barrier in Australia is in Belize! It’s a couple of countries North, but a relatively short hop on a plane, so that looks attractive.

Writing and diving is a balance I love. – Mark x
